Mountain Trail and Outdoor Fitness Circuit

Via Guidino’s Nature Trail located on the slopes of Monte San Salvatore offers splendid views of the Ceresio Lake and can be accessed directly from the hotel. The trail covers 1.6 km of trail on the mountain side and has 15 work-out stations expertly designed by physical fitness specialists and technicians to exercise a variety of different muscle sets, improving well-being and motor development. All the exercises are designed to be suitable for all ages and all levels of fitness.

The elements that make up the different stations are made from pine wood, treated in an autoclave with ecological salts, to remove all bacteria and ensure maximum safety and durability over time. A valuable illustrative poster displayed at each station, explains how each exercise may be carried out but in order to ensure the most effective and stimulating work out, an expert personal trainer can be arranged through THE VIEW Lugano to personalize your outdoor session.

Another star chef at THE VIEW Lugano

On Monday, November 26th in Lugano, the third evening of the autumn edition of Dining with the Stars took place. This gastronomic event organized in partnership with Martino Crespi events, hosts chefs of excellence at THE VIEW Fine Dining.

The star of the evening was Chef Emanuele Scarello, who delighted guests with his dishes, expertly paired with the well known wines of the Ferrari Trento Winery.

Attending the event were a many important guests and well known personalities, such as the famous fashion influencer Tamu McPherson.

 

THE VIEW presents “Reflections on the lake”, an exhibition by Omar Galliani

WOPART was the perfect opportunity to inaugurate “Reflections on the lake” an exhibition by Italian artist Omar Galliani. Galliani has works exhibited in some of the most important museums in the world and is considered one of the most interesting personalities of contemporary art.

On Saturday 22nd September, Maestro Galliani inaugurated his exhibition at an evening event dedicated to WOPART.

His exhibition can be viewed from September 2nd to November 30th and is set up in different areas of the hotel; the journey guides the viewer through a series of unpublished works that demonstrates the artist’s sensitivity, his technique and his suggestive images and explores the relationship with the lake and the poetry of water.

The exhibition also includes an unpublished work created by the Maestro specifically for THE VIEW Lugano called “Blu Oltremare”, which can be seen hanging in one of the two luxurious suites overlooking the lake.

Summer Break in Lugano

Imagine sipping a glass of champagne to the sound of soul stomping jazz and blues while enjoying a wonderful view on the lake of Lugano.

The Ticino region and in particular the city of Lugano is incredibly beautiful during the summer. The balmy Mediterranean climate, lush vegetation, majestic mountains and spectacular lake, all make the destination an ideal place to spend an exclusive holiday.

The “Long Lake Festival” which starts in late June and lasts until the 23rd of July, brings the city of Lugano to life for an entire month, offering good music, shows, theatre, performances, encounters and street art. “Lugano Estival Jazz”, is a premier musical event set in the beautiful Piazzas of Lugano and Mendrisio which attracts thousands of Jazz and World Music fans each year.

The “Blues to Bop” event will take place later in the summer and for three nights Lugano becomes a great open-air theatre, offering more than 60 hours of free, live music on 4 different stages. The event will also take place in Morcote for an evening.

In Locarno, just 40 minutes from Lugano the “Moon and Stars” event will host 10 days of pop-rock music in one of the most spectacular squares of Europe: Piazza Grande in Locarno. International stars like Tom Jones, Pharrell Williams, and Earth Wind and Fire, will perform for thousands of spectators.

At the exclusive “7° Hublot Polo Cup” in Ascona more than 70 pure bred horses will attract thousands of spectators for an exclusive Polo tournament in a spectacular setting.

Not to be missed is the exciting “Titanic – The Musical” which takes place on a stage on the lake off the village of Melide.

Sports and free time in Lugano

Take advantage of your free time to enjoy some of your favourite sports or even try some new ones. Lugano is a city that offers so much in terms of sports and leisure:

Golf – In Lugano, golf has been a tradition since the early 20’s. The Golf Club of Lugano is located a short distance from the international airport of Agno. The beautiful 18hole course is suitable for all levels of players.

The Arts and Museums

If you love art, Lugano is a city with much to offer. Lugano has kept its age-old tradition intact and its great beauty. Several museums are located around the city and below is a list of a number of these:

Cantonal Art Museum – Established in 1987 the Cantonal Art Museum is located in the centre of Lugano and is an important meeting point for cultural activities in Ticino. The museum is a window into international arts and embraces, in particular, the artistic development of the nineteenth and twentieth centuries. The museum also houses a library and a video library available to researchers, students and the general public. Among the relevant works, those of the sculptor Vincenzo Vela, the painters Filippo Franzoni and Varlin and those of more modern artists such as Edmondo Dobrzanski and Massimo Cavalli stand out.
The Swiss foundation of Photography is present in Cantonal Art Museum.

Spazio -1 – This galley hosts a collection of about 150 contemporary art works from the 60s to the present belonging to the collectors Giancarlo and Danna Olgiati.
Spazio -1 is open from Friday to Sunday from 11.00 a.m. to 6.00 p.m., by appointment only.

Fondazione Lindenberg Villa Pia – This art Foundation houses a large collection of oils, pastels, watercolours and photos belonging to the artist Erich Lindenberg. This space was created in 2008, about two years after the death of the artist who lived between Monaco and Berlin. Mareen Koch created this structure for scientific conservation and elaboration purposes, to allow the public to rediscover the value of art’s history.
The exhibition space is open on Tuesdays from 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m., and on Sunday from 2:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m.

Museum of the Radio – Established on the seventieth anniversary of the birth of the Radio, this museum shows the evolution of the radio from the thirties to the present, with particular reference to the area of Ticino. The museum was conceived and created by the Radio Association, and it is located on Monte Ceneri.

Chocolate Museum – The Alprose chocolate museum allows visitors to discover the world of chocolate from the beginnings of its history to present day, and from the first production plants, to the myriad chocolate qualities currently produced. The museum houses a vast collection of interesting chocolate related objects and the attention to detail makes this museum a very interesting visit. Furthermore, its location in Switzerland, a country historically rich in the tradition of production of chocolate, makes the museum even more relevant.

Shopping in Lugano and surroundings

If shopping is one of your passions, Lugano is the perfect place for you. The city offers a variety of interesting shops and boutiques. Here are some of the locations that we recommend for your shopping in Lugano:

Via Nassa – The Via Nassa is one of the oldest streets of Lugano. Its stores are elegant and offer a lovely atmosphere for shopping! The arcaded main street is home to many different shops from jewellery stores, to fashion boutiques and food outlets. Via Nassa is the main shopping street of Lugano and well worth visiting during your stay.

Via Cattedrale – Just below the train station and not far from Piazza Dante and Piazza Cioccaro, the Via Cattadrale is one of the most picturesque areas of Lugano. Here, you can find numerous boutiques, antique shops, gift items, jewellers and art galleries. A walk down the Via Cattedrale will allow you to experience the typical local atmosphere.

Market – Visit the local market of Lugano where small farmers come to sell their own local produce directly to the public. A flower vendor also brightens up the square. The market is located in the city centre and takes place on Tuesdays and Fridays from 7 a.m. to 12 a.m.

Fox Town Factory Stores – Not far from Lugano, this modern outlet has 3 floors of over 160 stores of fashion, shoes, accessories, perfumes, gifts, house ware and much more. Many prestigious brands have an outlet here. There are a number of restaurants and bars available for some food and refreshment.

LAC: The New Art & Culture Centre of Lugano

On September the 12th, the new art and culture centre, the LAC opened in Lugano! The aim of this new project is to “express the identity of Lugano as the cultural crossroads between the north and south of Europe” and will achieve this through a rich artistic and cultural program. The LAC will host concerts, plays and dance performances, as well as art exhibitions and cultural initiatives. In addition to these shows and exhibitions, the LAC will also house the Museum of Art of Ticino, a permanent collection belonging to the city and the canton.

Following the three weeks of inaugural events, the theatre season of the LAC is now well under way. The exciting program for this season will include some classical, some contemporary, some international and some local performances. Something to satisfy everyone. For example, the internationally acclaimed musical of Romeo and Juliette, based on the famous Shakespearean play will be playing on the 26th, 27th and 28th of November and with its cast of 38 actors and a production team of 35, this show should not to be missed. Also on the seasons program, is a wonderful reinterpretation of Swan lake, directed by Jean-Christophe Maillot and performed by Les Ballets de Monte-Carlo. Saviero Marconi’s musical version of the famous novel by Collodi, “Pinocchio”, with music by the famous group “Pooh”,is an ideal choice for both adults and children. There are also some interesting plays on the program, such as the thought provoking comedy by Anna Mazzamauro’s “Nuda e Cruda” which analyses subjects such as freedom and tolerance.

The LAC will also host cultural exhibitions and events like “Arte, poesia e musica” (Art, poetry and music), a guided journey through the “Museo d’arte della Svizzera Italiana” accompanied by live music.
